A decision aimed at ‘protecting women’s sports’: Sebastian Coe pleased with the reinstatement of gender tests by the IOC.

The International Olympic Committee (CIO)’s decision to reintroduce gender tests for female athletes is welcomed by Sebastian Coe, president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). According to him, this measure aims to “protect women’s sports” by ensuring that competitions are fair and just.

Gender tests were suspended in 2018 by the CIO following criticisms over their effectiveness and psychological impact on athletes. However, due to several cases of doping involving female transgender athletes, particularly that of Caster Semenya, the decision was made to reintroduce these tests for international athletics competitions.

Gender tests verify that athletes have a hormonal level compatible with their biological sex. Female transgender athletes who have undergone hormone therapy may be excluded from competitions if their hormone levels are too low or too high.

This decision has been criticized by several human rights organizations, which consider it discrimination against female transgender athletes. However, the CIO and IAAF have stated that they aim to ensure fairness and justice in athletics competitions.

Sebastian Coe also stated that this decision was not made hastily, but after a long period of consultation with sports medicine experts and athletes. He also highlighted that gender tests will not be applied to the 2020 Summer Olympics, but only to international athletics competitions organized by the IAAF.

In conclusion, the CIO’s decision to reintroduce gender tests for female athletes has been welcomed by Sebastian Coe, president of the IAAF, who considers it necessary to protect women’s sports by ensuring a fair and just competition. However, this decision has also been criticized by several human rights organizations, which consider it discrimination against female transgender athletes.

‘I question him on certain subjects’ casts a shadow of François Fillon over Bruno Retailleau’s presidential campaign.

The senator Bruno Retailleau is currently campaigning for the 2022 French presidential election. However, his political engagement is under a shadow, that of François Fillon, former Prime Minister and LR candidate in 2017. Indeed, Retailleau was the general secretary of the party Les Républicains (LR) for several years, under Fillon’s presidency. During this period, corruption charges were brought against Fillon and his wife, which caused a significant political crisis for the party. Retailleau distanced himself from Fillon when the charges surfaced, but he is still perceived as being close to him. This could have had a negative impact on Retailleau’s campaign, as some voters are reluctant to vote for a candidate associated with corruption charges. Moreover, Fillon recently announced that he would support Retailleau in his presidential campaign, which strengthened the ties between the two men and may have restored voter confidence in Retailleau. Finally, it is worth noting that Fillon has not been convicted of corruption, but he has been placed under investigation. This means that he is still suspected of having committed a criminal offense, but there has not yet been a final judgment. In conclusion, Bruno Retailleau’s presidential campaign is marked by the shadow of François Fillon, who was his predecessor at the head of the party Les Républicains and who is still suspected of having committed a criminal offense. This could have a negative impact on Retailleau’s campaign, but it is also possible that the ties between the two men will be strengthened by Fillon’s support for Retailleau’s candidacy.
